June 2013 marked a milestone for Hope for Kasai: the first organized group visit from Miami to Mpiana Ntita, Kasai, DRC. A team of volunteers and supporters traveled thousands of miles to see firsthand the community they had been supporting — and to deliver the supplies, dresses, and materials collected over the previous months.
What they found was both heartbreaking and beautiful. Children learning in difficult conditions — sitting on tree trunks, sharing resources — but smiling. Mothers welcoming them with warmth and dignity. A community with extraordinary resilience, facing extraordinary challenges.
The visit was transformative for everyone who participated. It turned abstract support into personal connection. It turned distant faces into known names. And it deepened the commitment to keep working, keep building, and keep showing up for Kasai — year after year.
