Dresses to Fit: Sewing Hope for the Girls of Kasaï

Dresses to Fit: Sewing Hope for the Girls of Kasaï

Every year, a group of women in Miami sets aside an afternoon — sometimes a full day — to sew dresses for the girls of Kasaï. In February 2018, they gathered again.

The event is part sewing circle, part community gathering, part act of faith. Participants of all skill levels work together to produce pillowcase-style dresses: simple, durable, and made with intention. Each dress is cut, sewn, and finished by hand — then packed and carried to Kasaï on the next mission trip.

For the girls who receive them, a dress like this is more than clothing. It's a message. Someone made this for me. Someone who doesn't know my name spent hours making something just for me. That message crosses oceans.

Thank you to every woman who picked up a needle in 2018. Your work will be worn, and felt, far from Miami.
