The second week of the 2016 visit to Kasai was about work. The team rolled up their sleeves alongside community members to advance construction, deliver supplies, run health assessments, and strengthen the programs that had been growing year after year.
Among the highlights: progress on the clean water infrastructure, continued support for the maternity center, delivery of school supplies and clothing collected in Miami, and quality time with the children of Kabata School.
But the most lasting memory wasn't any single project. It was the faces. The children who called out names, the mothers who offered food they could barely spare, the community leaders who spoke about the future with confidence and pride. That's what 15 years of sustained, respectful partnership looks like. And it's what keeps bringing the team back.
