In 2015, Hope for Kasai completed construction of the Centre de Santé et Maternité María Jesús — the first maternal health facility in Mpiana Ntita. Before this center existed, the infant mortality rate at birth in the area was 89%. Women delivered alone or with untrained help. There was no clean facility, no medical support, no safety net.
That changed when the doors of the maternity center opened.
Since 2015, the center has assisted 4,353 safe births — and not a single baby has been lost at birth since the facility opened. Today, 70–80% of all births in the area are assisted deliveries. Prenatal care is available for the first time. Mothers come from surrounding villages to deliver safely.
This milestone was made possible by the community of supporters who donated, organized galas, and believed it was possible. A safe place to be born. It changed everything.
